Bicycle, that is. It's been sat in my shed with a flat tyre for the better part of a decade, so the other day my dad and I decided to clean it up and fix the puncture. That's all good, but the problem now is I can't find my helmet. The last time I rode the bike (when I was 18) I happily just hopped on it and blazed down the nearby hill at 30mph without a helmet, but having not ridden the thing for ages I'm a bit reluctant to go out without it. I'm fairly sure it's in my attic though which poses another problem - I won't go up there as I'm scared of heights. The attic itself isn't the problem, it's the fact that the entrance is just at the top of the stairs so once I'm on a ladder looking directly down the stairs it's about a 30 foot drop, so I can't get up there to find it. FML and all that, just thought I'd share that. You guys reckon I'm doing the right thing by refusing to go for a ride without my helmet?

Absolutely you are doing the right thing , many deaths are caused by bicyclists not wearing helmets. I'm afraid of heights too so don't blame you for not going up there and look. Better off buying a new one as it may not fit anymore anyway.

Invest in a new helmet? I'm sure they can't be expensive?

Should have mentioned that, yeah that's probably the option I'm going for as even if I find my old one it's probably mold-ridden by now. My dad reckons a decent one should cost between £20 - £30 which is easy enough to afford, although as it's my birthday in less than a month I might be cheeky and ask my parents for an early present.

Ya if it's in the attic there's probably something unwelcomed in there by now But ya it really shouldn't cost too much, good call getting it as an early birthday present though you'll be riding in no time.

You should get a really cool looking helmet, like one with horns or something
