Hi folks I just wanted to share a few games I'm trying out at the moment, and see who has played them (if anyone of course) and what they reckon. I've downloaded Anno 2070, and as Nick and Justin will testify from my behaviour in the c-box I was getting a bit frustrated at getting it to work, but managed it in the end - only to instantly be hit with a screen which rocketed the following thought in to my mind: "what the hell am I doing?" I'm sure that the game will prove worth the effort though. I've bought The Longest Journey and it's sequel, Dreamfall, on Steam for about £3.74. I've played the first game most of the way through before and loved it, though it seemed outstandingly long for a game of this genre - who else has played this? If you've played the sequel, does it live up to the first game's high standards? Assassin will probably lambast me for this, but I've also re-installed Spore. I tried it when it first came out, paying top dollar for it, and found the bugs etc to be far too much, and barely moved on with it at all. I'm out for a second shot at it. I've also been enjoying Age of Empires II again recently too - this, along with Master of Orion (1 and 2, I thought the 3rd one was absolutely pants) are my favourite games ever. Oh yeah, and Theme Hospital and Transport Tycoon Deluxe too Monkey Island is my all-time favourite franchise (though replay value on them isn't huge unless you've left it a good while), and I'm also going to soon try out Telltale's Back to the Future games. So, have you played any of these games? What are your opinions on them?

Anno 2070 seems like my kind of game, but it's a little expensive at the moment (even on sale) so I'll wait a while on that one. Your thoughts when you can give it a good playthrough would be awesome. As it happens I've also bought The Longest Journey and Dreamfall for £3.74, but I've yet to play them. Again, your thoughts would be most appreciated. You're right about Spore, prepare to be lambasted! But yeah I also bought it on release for something like £35, and I've not touched it since about three weeks after said purchase. The RTS-era of the game is probably the best so I recommend dragging that part out for as long as possible, but I also enjoyed the space part of the game more than most. It's the bits before that make the game crap. Theme Hospital is incredible, in fact it's now been classified as Abandonware so it's free and legal to download here. Dunno how it holds up on modern Windows/Mac systems though, I've yet to try. As you like Telltale games I highly recommend the Walking Dead games - they've only released two of the five planned chapters but my god are they good. Saying that I've only played the first and it's amazing, but apparently the second has been hailed as even better - you have to make several moral choices (mainly regarding who lives and dies, it happens twice in the first chapter alone) and it really is gut-wrenching at times.

Anno 2070 seems like my kind of game, but it's a little expensive at the moment (even on sale) so I'll wait a while on that one. Your thoughts when you can give it a good playthrough would be awesome. I will post either in this thread or a new one with my thoughts once I've had the time to give it a good go, I'll admit I didn't buy this - I downloaded it for, ahem, testing purposes. The cracking really made it more difficult than seemed worth it though, which probably contributed to my early confusion once the game was launched. I'll get back to you on that one As it happens I've also bought The Longest Journey and Dreamfall for £3.74, but I've yet to play them. Again, your thoughts would be most appreciated. As I say I've played the first one before, it is a little far fetched with some of the puzzles but generally I find it an excellent game, and as I mentioned before the sheer length of it (it's HUGE!) mean this is more than worth the £3.74 alone, and that's before you even reach the sequel. Beautiful game, and if you don't fall in love with the protagonist (April Ryan) at least once during the game you are insane. Yeah, just fancied giving it another go to try and somehow justify that £30-odd spent when it came out really. Not a big deal, just wanting to give it another go really. Theme Hospital is incredible, in fact it's now been classified as Abandonware so it's free and legal to download here. Dunno how it holds up on modern Windows/Mac systems though, I've yet to try. To be fair, CorsixTH is an open source clone of it, and while it isn't FULLY functional yet there is more than enough in there to play through the game, and it's designed to work on modern Windows. The original Theme Hospital really needs a bit of work, ideally a manual .bat file, to be created to work properly on modern windows, it can be done but even then tends to crash I think. Now THAT is the kind of recommendation I am after - I will definitely give that a crack - sounds like a good game, and I believe Telltale tend to make some of the best games in the world right now - even updates and sequels of classic games, a la Tales of Monkey Island (fantastic game, first new MI stuff in years, taken from an old and original concept, delivered beautifully to a modern, digital audience - 10/10). Cheers for that :-)

I've got the Walking Dead game, I wasn't going to get it at first, then I read something that it not being able to be sold on console in Aus for some fucked up reason, I shouted out in defence and bought it. The second chapter is very emotional when it gets to the end, I have to say that

Got both episodes on the way as we speak, looking forward to trying this out Also, installed "Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island" - if anyone's tried that I'd LOVE some opinions, I got it because it sounds similar to Monkey Island (it even has the same background artist who did MI3) so that's another one on the list to try

I'm thinking of setting up a stream account and getting some cames for my computer. Is it advisable to still be purchasing games even when i have a laptop without a number pad? (right hand side of the keyboard)

Yeah, I suppose, the laptop I'm using lacks a number pad and things are fine when it comes to Steam

Yeah I wouldn't have thought the lack of a number pad would be TOO much of a hindrance, especially considering s lot of the games rely on either mouse or joypad. That said, I'd definitely check control techniques before you purchase games you aren't sure of. Then again, separate number pads can be bought which can be connected via USB, I'm pretty sure I got one for about £5 somewhere once, though god knows where it is now.

Spore was a game where it's hard to tell where they went wrong with development, but it had such potential. I loved what the game offered but hated how it turned out, that being said I still find myself reinstalling it despite having to turn to piracy to counter their STUPID, INANE, WORTHLESS CD protection...

Well I have to say so far I'm thoroughly enjoying Spore, even if I am about 3/5ths of the way through it (well, I'm in the tribal stage - I'm probably nowhere near 3/5ths but so far it's been great!).
Admittedly, it is a bit boring at times - essentially, each stage is a rinse and repeat version of the previous stages, but yeah so far it's not as bad as I remembered.

What do you spend your time doing in AoE III? Blowing holes in people with a battalion of red coats. Just a personal preference though
