So, as the title says, the touch pad on my laptop isn't working. I've been using a mouse ever since I actually got my laptop last year, but I think a month or two ago the touch pad has stopped working. It's because I have a mouse plugged in, when I do have my mouse unplugged the touch pad doesn't work, even enabling it in the settings doesn't seem to do anything to make it work. I have no idea on what to do.

Alright, it's not that important Windows 7: Go to start - type in devmgmt.msc and click what shows up Windows XP: Start - Run - devmgmt.msc Expand the Mice and other pointing devices category, and take a screenshot of the entire page.

I believe that's what you wanted When I double click the Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad, it says it's working properly, which it isn't, which makes me sad as there's 1 less light on, on my keyboard

This is how you make me feel Nick
Edit: you said something about a light on your keyboard, look for a button on the keyboard then enables/disables the trackpad. usually it's FN + F7
Anywho, right click on Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad and click "update driver software" and allow it to search automatically, if it is update, uninstall it, restart your computer and boot back up go back to "device management" and right click the mouse category and choose 'check for hardware changes' it should reinstall the driver (if it didn't when you booted back up), if it doesn't work after that then it's a hardware problem.
