Seeing as it's been nearly 3.5 years since we discussed music, what are we digging these days? Top albums? New genres? Old favourites?
I'm really enjoying metal genres known as blackgaze and atmospheric black metal at the moment, which is effectively all the traits of black metal but with the... rawness removed and replaced with melancholy and beauty. My favourite album from last year is by a band who fits the genres called Enisum, and my favourite album so far this year, Mystical Future by Wildernessking is also very similar.

Still digging Iron Maiden, really like their Book of Souls album. Awesome that it sounds like Maiden even though the singer had tongue cancer prior to the albums release.
New bands I've gotten into since whenever the heck DXX was a thing would be: Korpiklaani, Ghoultown, Cryonic Temple, Blind Guardian and most recently Ghost.

To be honest, the album I've been digging the most at the moment is from 2012, haha. It counts 'cause I only heard about them in late late late 2015, so... "Cognitive" from Soen. Ever heard about them, Assy?

I've been digging Ghost lately myself. Cirice and Year Zero got me into them mostly. Other than that, been listening to Coheed & Cambria, Devin Townsend, Alestorm, Rammstein and Imaginary Flying Machines to name a few.

Secular Haze did it for me, the start of that song is just great and yes Year Zero is great. Hail Satan

I still listen to metal every now and again but I've betrayed that genre in favour of reigniting my old flame with punk music. Been going back to The Exploited, Subhumans, Sick of it All and all the old classics as of late. I didn't really pick up many new albums last year if I'm completely honest the only shoutouts I can think of is Svalbard - "One Day This Will End", Down I Go - "You're Lucky God, That I Can't Reach You" and mewithoutYou - "Pale Horses". That's likely due to me going back and listening to older music for the majority of this past year rather than checking out any new stuff.
I am looking forward to the rest of the year gig-wise though. I've got Manic Street Preachers twice in a week in Spring, a few pub gigs I'll be going to see for about a tenner (English Dogs Easter Sunday's the closest one), Download Festival and Rebellion Festival in the summer. Already been to a few gigs so far this year, trekking down to London this past weekend to go see Gorilla Biscuits, Modern Life is War and Touché Amore was a hell of a night.
EDIT: Forgot that Evil Blizzard - "Everybody Come to Church" came out last year. Unreal album.
