Right, for those who don't know, AJ Styles' contract is up in a matter of weeks and there's been rumours flying around as to what's next for him - will he stay, work the indies or make the long-awaited jump to WWE?
Turns out he's signed a new short term deal with TNA, but for 'significantly less money than he's made in the past.' The 'in the past' bit got my attention, as that probably doesn't mean the money he's making on his most recent contract, suggesting he's taken a pay cut before.
As you probably know TNA has made a lot of cuts recently, and for once not only to lower-card performers as the like of Devon and even Brooke Hogan have been shown the door in recent weeks. AJ has gone on record as saying he wants to do whats best for his family and that of course means earning a decent living, something which he probably isn't receiving despite being the poster boy of the company for the better part of the last decade. I think he wants to stay loyal to TNA but at the same time wants the company to match how he feels he should be valued, but it's got to the point where he has to sign something to earn some money. I doubt even with the decrease in earnings he'd earn more money in the indies, and while he's kept quiet about a potential move to WWE the fact is they apparently don't want him as they've developed a sort of unwritten policy of not signing TNA guys. In my opinion he was hanging on as long as possible for Vince to make a move, and it simply hasn't come.
I feel bad for AJ as he's now 36 and from what I can tell wants to take the Christian route and have one good run earning good money before retirement, and he's not going to get it by the look of it.
