A bit geeky here maybe, but does anyone else watch Doctor Who?
I never really watched the originals, but have watched avidly since the first episode of its revival in 2005. David Tennant is by far my favourite Doctor so far, though Tom Baker episodes I've watched since getting into this show have always had my enjoyment.
Anyway, it's the 50th anniversary in 2013, and there are many rumours about what will be done to commemorate this - and the most popular theory is a multi-doctor storyline, which they've done a couple of times to mark past anniversaries.
Basically, these multi-doctor stories involve past incarnations of the doctor - actors who themselves have played the role - and "The Five Doctors" was made with, at the time, every actor to have played him, with the exception of William Hartnell, who had died and so an actor who looked and acted very much like him took his place for the episode.
I'd love to see David Tennant and Chris Eccleston return to the role, though I believe the latter is somewhat embarassed to be associated with the show anymore so I doubt he'd be in it. Tom Baker is all but confirmed assuming it is indeed a multi-doctor story, and I'd be very VERY surprised if Peter Davidson and Paul McGann didn't make appearances too.
Paul McGann played the Eighth Doctor in a one-off TV movie in 1996 (well after the show's cancellation) in the hopes of reviving the series then, though it didn't happen. Despite this, he's technically the longest serving doctor, as he wasn't written off on-screen until Eccleston's appearance at the start of the 2005 series, despite his single TV outing. McGann is also the most written-about doctor in spin-off media, so I think his appearance is a given surely.
Another rumour/theory I read and loved is that Rory (one of the Doctor's current companions) is actually the Master having used the fobwatch. While I love the thought of Arthur Darvill playing The Master it'd mean a definite end for John Simm, who was fantastic in the role. However, as far as we know his Master was killed off in any case, though if they are bringing the character back I'd want him to feature, even if it's just to regenerate into either Arthur Darvill or the other rumour which would also be amazing, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Matt Smith's doctor is also rumoured to be regenerating at the end of the 50th anniversary special, but I doubt it.
Anyone else looking forward to this? If so, what do you think they will do to make it special?
